As promised here's 0.91 which fixes several problems (like the alt-tab crash on some system, the chambara XP cheat bug, etc), has new map, and allows you to repeat tasks even if you reach fame of 50. Regarding the weapons elemental damage, for now I solved the problem simply by not having any enemy IMMUNE to a specific damage, but in next version I'm thinking to just have elemental weapons do significanly less damage (like 1/5) if the target is immune, since I liked the idea that some enemies are immune to certain damage types.
As for enemy mages AI, _Anima is working on an improved mage AI that will use more skills and in general be harder to beat :)
This version doesn't include chapter4, Aleema is still working on it, finishing the last stages of the battle with Fost :)

All the fixes sound super! Thanks for being open to the elemental weapon fix. I agree with you that being immune to elemental spells and that doing 0 damage is good. I do think that unless the blade is literally made of fire that a fire demon would still feel the cut :D

I will admit to abusing the Chambara XP cheat a little. After 3 times on one of my two main saves, I thought "this isn't going to be fun later because it'll be too easy." There ya have it: self-policing in games. It exists!

I don't think my short range sword wielding characters should be able to hit opponents in the back row and do damage, right? When using (for example) Loren, I can have her in my front row, click twice on an opponent in the back row and do full damage. I don't think I was able to do that in previous versions.

No indeed, though it happens only when you double-click right? I'll have to ask the coder how to do that (when we added the small icons to show all the skills level, the code to get the skills changed, so I made a fix myself but as you noticed, has that bug!). Thanks

0.91 bug

Random encounter - if you click on the "?" the text displays UNDER the enemy display and is thus unreadable... AND it doesn't go away...

The ? doesn't add a whole lot currently... It would be more useful it it assess the "danger" level of the random encounter...

I can't get the "Barbarian" in the outskirts of Horus to trigger... Am I missing something? Already defeated Jul.

I got the "furs" scene with Loren, but other than that haven't really seen romance progression with her...

When did you start her romance? Do you know her heart level?
Spoiler:
If you got her Furs scene, then one of the 4 professions scenes (see romance guide) should automatically trigger when you go to camp in chapter 3 (since you needed 2 hearts to get furs scene and it gives you a +1 heart when viewing, and the professions scenes need 3 hearts).

For the barbarian, you must speak to all of your party members (specifically Dora, Rei, and Amukiki). Assuming you've been to Horus and seen the scene with General Samael.
Sounds like maybe you need to go to camp more often?

Ah must have changed the behavior when I did the new map, thanks. I'll see if I can somehow address the danger even if it's a bit hard (is relative, I should calculate all attack/defense/magic values of all enemies and compare it to the average of the party, and even then wouldn't be accurate since depends who you select).

Just downloaded version 0.91 and I am super impressed! I think what I really love about Winter Wolves is that as new games come out I feel like I can really see improvement in each one. I really love the dialogue as well! I was playing and kept waving over my partner to show him the new thing that Loren or Draco said. ^_^ Oh, also, the character creation section was awesome! Absolutely loved it.

A few things I noticed having played this game for the first time:

Dialogue:

-In the beginning scene where Breza tells Loren that her mother is missing the narration says something along the lines of "the news the scouts carried would not be a routine report" and then "Your Majesty, we come bearing... dire news" followed by "Loren's face paled at the news." The use of the word news was a little repetitive.
-"Loren slowly removed her sword from Draco's throat" After the first plot fight. It sounds like she stabbed him in the throat. Perhaps moved her sword away from his throat instead?
-I liked the different choices in conversation, but between Joking, Friendly, and Forceful I was never sure who I was being friendly to or if being forceful meant yelling at Loren or yelling at the other people in the conversation. This isn't a huge deal since you can save before each choice, though.

Intuitiveness:

-When equipping items I had some trouble figuring out how to close out and go back to the previous screen. Then I found the little X ribbon, but I couldn't see it at first.
-After a few battles I got a hold of some things (such as it seems that archers do more damage when they are farther away) but having a quick explanation of placement order might help with this.

Bugs:

-I tried to click on the Quick Help button in the middle of battle and it flashes in front of the screen and then fades out behind the enemies and stays there for the duration of the battle. (I think this one was already mentioned.)

Also I can't figure out how to camp. However, I have not yet purchased the game since it isn't out yet, but I notice some other people have gotten past where the demo ends. If I pre-order do I get to play past the demo? O.O I will probably pre-order and try before this gets answered. << >>

Thank you for the writing suggestions, I think I'll take them. :) I'm not sure how to solve the Joking/Friendly/Forceful problem, unless I just put the first line of dialogue from the PC in the choice itself. That's probably what should have happened from the start anyway (I always thought the choices would be converted to smilely faces you click or something), but a lot of the times the responses to what's happening is the same, just different attitudes to accomplish it. I'll look over all the dialogues and see if it would be pointless or helpful to include something different than just "Friendly/Joking/Forceful".

P.S. you don't need to save before every choice. If you have a mousewheel on your mouse, if you just roll back with it, you can scroll backwards in the text to before the menu choice. You can also do this with the Page Up/Down keys on your keyboard. No saving required! :P

To "camp" you go to the map screen. There should be a big ol' Camp button in the top corner (left or right, depending on the version of the game).

As far as I know, once you pre-order the game, you can play further than the demo, up to Chapter 4. The game isn't entirely finished, though. Battle voices, more camp dialogues, new graphics and music will likely be added to the game in the future, but the great majority of it is there. This is sort've a beta testing phase.

Aleema already replied to some of your questions, about those:

I might try to just allow closing the equip screen by clicking anywhere except the equipment slots, since indeed it's not immediate to spot the red X ribbon.
Yes, the problem is that while the game was still in beta I waited before writing the rules, since I've changed them lots of times. I think now I can start to write them down though, since we're getting close to the final stages!

Ah yes you're right! Going to change it now
