The beginning of a new journey

Postby jack1974 » Tue Mar 29, 2011 10:03 pm

I'll have a blog post about this new game next friday, but meanwhile wanted to share the profiles of the two playing characters: Saren and Elenor.

Saren choice

Lo “You want me to travel with a man?”
“She surveyed the young man more than a bit warily. Males were not well received amongst the Amazons, and their function was only seen as a means to procreate.”
Sc “We’ve found a lot of talent in him, Your Majesty. Please hear him out.”
Sa “It is an honor to meet you, Princess.”
“He bowed to her before continuing.”
Sa “When I was captured, I was not killed because of my skills. I was instead raised as a servant. I would be happy to travel with you, Your Highness.”

Elenor choice

Lo “An elf, hm?”
“The Princess watched as the elf bowed to her politely.”
El “While I am a woman, I have not held the rank of an ordinary citizen because I am an elf."
El "I was captured some time ago when escaping an orc raid, but I was raised as a servant because I am a very skilled healer. I will be more than happy to assist you on your journey, Princess.”

Your player character starts out as healer for plot reasons, but as the game goes on you'll be able to have different hybrid classes like warrior/healer, mage/healer and so on. I also plan to use a skill tree system as you've seen in many games, from Diablo 2 to the most recent Dragon Age 2.

More info and some art coming soon 8)

The art looks great. I feel kinda bad for Saren. I hope he gets treated fairly.

Haha thanks. Well depends on player actions how he will be treated and how it will end, but surely the start isn't much encouraging (but that's how amazons are, cold-hearter warriors!).
Hope that the female fan base will still like this kind of game/art, since I am not sure there will be really cute males in the game...

As male, I'm quite pleased to see this kind of art-style. You know, because... Loren and Elenor...one night, around the campfire...

Well, you just described one of the romance scenes!
With this game, while I'll have a story and subplot romances, I want to concentrate more on the gameplay/skills. I have also another game in progress (from Planet Stronghold artist) that will feature the hottest manga women & men you've ever seen in a game, so in any case everyone will be happy with that one

I just uploaded a pic of the current battle screen WIP:

before you run away screaming in horror, remember that it's just temporary and contains lot of programmer art
I am thinking to use this system, because Planet Stronghold one works better for a more casual game. Also I want to have bigger battles. In PS, you had always max 4 vs 4, instead here you can have epic battles, have area damage spells, move the heroes from the frontline to the rear when they're injured, and more cool things like that.
Of course, I don't know if will be a good move or not yet (if I know the target market of that game, I think will be a positive one).
I want to abandon the "turn" system and switch to a speed/stat based movement. Who moves first is based on a statistic, rather than having you move all the heroes and then the computer move all his ones. I also plan to have a quick/instant battle option (though have yet to see how much work would be).

The guy with the fireball in his hand looks like the Druid Master from the Vera Blanc games.

After thinking carefully about it, and after judging the quality/speed of the comic artist, I'm going to use manga art even for this game
The problem with most comic artist is that they're used to draw comics, that sometimes don't require as much detail as art in videogame. And the new images were not of same quality as the one I've posted, so I decided this change.
Anyway, some good news: I'm planning to use an isometric battle system for this game :) which should be more cool than the card-rpg system I had in mind to use. Anyway, for now the project is on hiatus and I'll go forward with the Undead Lily one first.

Epic Battles instead of 4 v 4 = :)

Speed based combat instead of static order = :)

Game on hiatus= :( :x
