Skilltree - Saren & Elenor

Postby jack1974 » Mon Jun 13, 2011 9:13 am

The main character of the story, Saren or Elenor, will have as base class respectively Warrior and Thief. They also share this skilltree, "Support":

Support as the name says is a very useful skilltree (and that's why everyone will be friend of the main character! :D):
Analyze - Reveals enemies basic informations like Hit Points and Spell/Stamina Points. Higher level will reveal more critical info like enemy skills and weak spots - passive
Vita - Restores 20-40-60% of target ally Hit Points. - activated
Energia - Restores up to 25-50-75% of target ally Hit and Stamina/Spell Points. - activated
Forza - Restores 20-40-60% of target ally Stamina/Spell Points. - activated
Neutralize - Removes any incapacitating conditions from ally (stun, knock down, paralyze). Success chance 25-50-75% - activated

Powerful support abilities, definitely like ;) A rush to purchase said skills easily.

But I was wondering, why not allow Saren and Elenor to pick their base class? Letting either be Warrior or Thief is dandy I reckon, although I did notice Loren is a warrior, so some overlap, hmm.

Well yes I could allow them to pick the base class, and choose a specialization class indeed... worth thinking about it. Worst case I'll only have to draw 3 versions of them with different clothes (the one they have right now can work for warrior/thief but definitely not for mage). Will need to think about it!

Aye I agree, their character portfolio shows they are more the physical type, so I'm very cool with them not being able to pick mage.

Or maybe, mesh both the trees, so the player is then faced with more complexity/choices and call it a Hero class? :P Then you can stick with the 1 clothes set you got and won't need to ask the player what class to pick at the start either! So you get 1 deep tree instead of 3 middletons. And support tree is overpowered.

From what I gather, we have the:

Hero/ine - 3 (classes), Loren (Warrior), Dora (Scout) ??? (Mage) as the party definition, so there's the classical Dragon Age, RPG style party :D

Food for thought?

Cheers

Honestly, I wouldn't mind just being able to pick fighter/thief for each one if redrawing a whole new outfit for a mage is too difficult or expensive. I just don't want to be stuck with two fighters right off the bat.

No indeed, and I could still make an expansion later with a mage if the game does well like Planet Stronghold. Though the question would be: a male character, a female one, and the third?

...Hmmm...

How about an asexual character? Make it some kind of elemental or humanoid golem, with androgynous facial features. Give him/her/it a dark and mysterious past that gets all the ladies juices flowing, but the sort of vulnerable naive curiosity that tweaks the male/sufficiently Amazonian female protective instinct?

...Or, that's a stupid idea, and you should just redraw the two characters' sprites and make it an extra option foe the expansion.

Well I expressed myself badly: it wouldn't be much the cost of redrawing Elenor/Saren in mage outfit, but the story - since I would need to change several part of it already written, in which you can't do some things because you're not a mage/don't have a mage.
To be honest they are a sort of battle/mage or mage/thief already: since the "support" class can indeed cast some sort of spells, even if they are technically "prayers" and not real spells. For now I think I'm going to let the player choose the specialization class which might be:
- Saren: two weapons, two handed & sword & shield
- Elenor: scout, assassin & ranger

now have to finish making both warrior and thief specialization classes :)

Haha that's fine, and I like to reinforce, or reword what I said/thought earlier too.

I do agree that the Hero/ine should NOT be able to pick mage, as:

1. You already have the story laid.
2. Their current portfolio looks like they have mainly physical attributes.
3. Which means you won't need to redress/draw.

So we're clear on that, the Hero/ine is in essence a Fighter/Thief + Leader/Cleric/Bard, etc.

My line of thought and suggestion is, combine all the 3 trees, for the PC, rename it to Hero, maybe? And let them specialise via their skill choices in the tree.

This will let the PC decide if they want a melee babe, or a sharpshooter stud :P

If that doesn't work, I have looked at the 3 choices on hand, and agree they massively fit the base roles. So looking forward to any outlooks!

Cheers.

No because the base skill should be either Warrior or Thief. So I can't call it Hero if has the basic skill IDENTIC to one of the other two classes :)

I just counted each playable character and so far I have:

WARRIOR: Loren, Amukiki & Ramas
THIEF: Dora, Sauzer & Karen
MAGE: Draco, Apolimesho, Myrth, Chambara

so depending which hero you choose we could have 4 warriors or 4 thieves. The mages are 4, but you will have to choose during the plot between Apolimesho and Myrth (they're mutually exclusive) so in effect you can have max 3 mages with you.
