New version 0.85 now online

I decided to upload version 0.85 which has the main purpose of testing chapter2:

NOTE: I uploaded a wrong file the first time so all camp dialogues were unavailable! So if you have that bug, try redownloading it. I wish I had an autoupdater system :oops:
I'm interested mainly in:
- bugs, of course
- plot bugs (even if Aleema and I tested it well, you never know)
- difficulty/balancing. I think Mages now are perfectly fine or maybe even overpowered, but I don't want to touch the difficulty unless someone tells me that at Hard level is too easy. Because you never get people complaining if a game is too easy, but you will if a game is too hard. So I think I reached almost a perfect difficulty balance and don't want to screw up :lol:

Just played the .85 version. Noticed a bug. When a character receives an increase, their hp is increased for the total value(right side number) but the increase is not made to the left side.

Difficulty level on hard for the elf path was too much for my experience in 1.the goblin posing as guards and then 2.later facing the 6 elves after getting ramus or whatever his name was.
1. The goblin one because he kept freezing 3 out of 4 of the people in my group. When he froze all 4 I got so fed up with the game that I quit. Don't see myself purchasing the game when I don't even get a chance to fight back! 2. The elf girl kept healing the enemy before I could get anywhere.

Couple of bugs and strange things...

1) All the swords in the initial shop seem to be either "rusty" or magical

2) Saren as fighter, could not equip hunting bow, but Loren could (?)

Some serious advice to people... Suggest testing on "medium" and not hard... Getting play balance right on medium is critical. Hard then can be scaled up... If hard is *too* hard, big deal, people can always drop back to medium. If medium is not right, people will think "game is broken"...

1) I added more weapons, rusty are the basic ones. Maybe will change the term, but in practice the basic sword is that one, with slightly reduced damage vs previous version.
2) ah that's a bug since the PC should be able to equip ANY weapon in the game (except Mage stuff)

About the difficulty, what Korval said. You should NOT play the game at Hard, and quit because is too hard!! The level you should be play is Normal. Quitting a game because you can't win at Hard level, when you can easily switch to Normal or even Easy before every battle, makes no sense (if you couldn't change the level anymore once you start, ok that would be different).

I tried that battle, it's indeed difficult, however I managed to win by simply not rushing in the battle (As you should do at Hard level, was made for EXPERT roleplayers who like grinding!).
1) do several tasks in grandtree. Even if you lose them, you don't lose the game, so you can try as much as you want. Each fight, you gain XP, new items, gold, and fame so you can buy items in grandtree cheaper
2) repeat 1, until you can afford to buy a good amount of healing and restoration potions (that resurrect your members). Or/and better equipment, armors are very useful. In my case though I just did 3 battles and was ready to go.
3) now you're ready to go kick dark elves asses :lol: I tried the battle and with the new stuff it was just fine (not even too hard).

So if you just want to go on with the story, play at Normal level, not Hard! When you choose it the game warns you that it's for experienced roleplayers only. I never play any game I buy at hard level mysefl :wink:

That said, I think the battle is still unbalanced vs the human path, since is more difficult than the first Snow Orc battles, so on next version will tweak it. So you were right, not because you can't win at Hard, but because it's too much difficult vs the human path.

I really like the new weapons and the changing nature of a vendor's inventory. One thing that I wonder about is two-handed swords now. Been playing for over an hour now, doing lots of city tasks to refresh the shops, but I haven't seen even one two-handed sword, just lots and lots of 2-H hammers and axes. I hope I just had a stroke of bad luck - or are 2H-swords really that rare (or even not in right now)?

You're right, there are only a few variants of 2h swords. Since the 2h swords are grouped under "Heavy Edged" weapons, I added many battleaxes but forgot to add more swords. Will add them on next version :)

Would be really nice if you can beef them up soon. Going with certain types of weapons and armor is part of the fluff I enjoy very much about RPGs, often even sacrificing stats for looks. Not being able to have my vision of a shiny paladin like knight with a big 2H-sword takes a lot of the appeal out of a game.

I noticed that the shops seem to have some sort of basic set of weaponry/armor that are always present. Maybe it is possible to open up that pool for some more basic variants - that way people can pretty much from the starting levels build up with whatever gear they like (given that they grind themselves some money) and then just have to wait until they find some magic/lore objects of the same type later on in the game.

Yes right now each shop has some basic stuff always available, and then several random items based on the party level/actual gear/plot progression. I am even thinking to drop the basic items and have completely randomized shops or reduce the basic items to just a few. I want each shop to be specialized in something (Grandtree in missile/magic staves, and so on), but since the random pick can choose only specific items, I could do this.

I think I also spot a mistake on chapter2 - if you visit Horus you might trigger an event that is supposed to happen in chapter3 :lol: My fault since I was adding chapter3 events but didn't thought to test the game with the previous chapter conditions!
I'm going to upload a fixed version, even if corrects only that thing. If you stumble into it you'll see a scene from chapte3 but nothing else (you can't go on with it).
