That was only one of the choices, you can choose to miss Tanya (and basically be a bastard vs Helen) or care about Helen. Like the first game, there are many possible choices

How many endings will there be, and will there also be *very short* ones again?

Well this time is different. If you fail with a character, the story goes on with the remaining ones, but until you reach a certain point you won't see one of the various endings (I think there are 23 different ones but should recount them).
For example if you fail the first "social boss battle" with Tanya, her story ends there, but the one of Helen, Luke and Tom goes on. There are specific points where each character can be put "out of play".

Do you hear about the characters again once they are "out of play"? Like If Luke goes out of play will you hear in Helen's, Tanya's or Tom's path about what happened to Luke?

It depends on the scenes/combos. I can't reveal too much without spoilers, but in some cases you hear Luke talking about what happened to Tom while talking with Helen, and so on... there are some really shocking plot twists, of this you can be sure. I already know that some people will complain, saying "how is possible that Luke/Tanya/Tom/Tina did that!". It is much more "hard/serious" than the first game. Don't know exactly how to explain, but in practice depending on the choices, some characters will behave in ruthless/crazy/unexpected ways.
