Mmmm... Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, I think? (It's been at least 25 years since I read it...)

Yes, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It's the galactic sector Earth is located in. Before it gets obliterated to make way for a hyperspace bypass.

I would say that Hitchhiker's Guide and its sequels, along with Tolkien, did a lot to shape my middle school years (about ages 11-14, for non-US-school-system folks).

My mom was cool enough to read Tolkien to me before I could read myself, so it was pretty much a given that I would end up playing Winter Wolves RPGs. :lol:

I read The Hobbit twice, but it was the only Tolkien book I read so far. While I can genuinely enjoy books once I get into the groove, the trouble is getting started.

I long ago gave up on the idea of feeling bad about not having read book X or seen movie Y. There aren't enough hours in the day, especially once you have children. Therefore, I refuse to shame anyone else for not having read/seen/enjoyed anything that's important to me.

I try to keep it at the level of "Well, if you ever have the time, I recommend it." and not "Oh, you absolutely HAVE to see/read it." Unless it's a movie I own and I can lure them over with the promise of free pizza. :twisted: :mrgreen:

How much will the game differ from the old youtube trailer? I guess base building and colony management is scrapped and its more like PS1?

Yes based building/colony management was really too much. Also, way too different from a RPG and I've learned that changing too much in a sequel is not a good thing, if I wanted to make a base building game I should do a separate game.
There will still be isometric map exploration and even some simple crafting, I'm still working on the details doing experiments :)

The base building part in the trailer looked really a bit too ambitious with all those different buildings(cafeteria,red light district) and the colonists need for leisure or safety. Would be more fitting for a civ style game, which coupled with the Planet Stronghold lore actually could be fun, but the audience for the game would be a bit different and I fear they could judge it too harshly. :)
However I think a light version of the base building/base defense aspect could tie nicely to the exploration part. Something like when you are at the part of the game, where you have to find different objectives on the map or collect a certain amount of resources for a project to progress in the story. Resources are also used to train units. Base defense battles would be fought with cards, soldiers or tanks need to be build, buff cards would be tied to certain members of your squad so you need to decide, who you leave back in base while the other members explore the map and hunt for items/ressources and fight their battles in normal rpg style. Maybe for a Planet Stronghold 5 you could try something like that.
Since we also got a black market, where we can get weapons and armor, I guess crafting will be used for more powerful items? Or maybe for upgrades? If you can't answer that question right now simply ignore it and maybe give us an update, once you have more details for us.

Indeed, RPG and strategy/sim would be two different audiences :)

Because of the story, there won't be many shops (I am not even sure if there'll be more beside the black market) so crafting will be used to create specific weapons, and yes also more powerful. Also you won't always have enough money to buy the black market items, but maybe you'll have a lot of resources so the only option will be to craft something.
Of course certain enemies (humanoids) will also leave items you can loot.
