I was wondering, with the Ouya coming out soon (they just started sending models out to their kickstarter donators), if Winter Wolves had any plans to release games on it? Ouya uses Android and WW has games available on Android.

Re: Ouya?
Cool! They are going to release sometime in June, it looks like. And the console is only $99-- much less than most other consoles out now. They have a blog that they're updating for developers, too:

Oh, also, here's a discussion of the Ouya on the Lemmasoft forums.

Re: Ouya?
H'okay, resurrecting this thread because the Ouya just came out! I preordered (but was not a backer) and got my Ouya yesterday when they launched!
I was wondering how your stance is on Ouya now? They only have two rules on uploading games: 1. Nothing too sexually explicit (though they do not say exactly what is "too" sexually explicit) and 2. No hate speech.
It seems that RenPy will run on the Ouya, and there is already one RenPy visual novel in the play store called The Vestibule. I haven't played it yet (I think it's pretty short, though, about 5000 words?) but it's exciting to know that it is possible and already happening! :D
But yeah, wanted to open this up to hear other people's thoughts and see about your position, Jack!

Re: Ouya?
My position is that I still need to wait for the Ren'Py coder to implement the support for this platform. He said will do it but not sure yet WHEN, and since he is very busy I don't think will happen before end of the year. Personally (but that's just my opinion) I don't think the OUYA will have such a big success after the initial hype, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong of course. In any case, would like to support it when I can, if is not too much "painful" (though so far only iOS was totally painful, all other platforms were fine).

Re: Ouya?
Just a question of the "nosy" type:
Assuming the framework is in place and supports it, how much effort is another platform? It seems (from the Loren/Android video) that you need to test everything, and to fix bugs like "Select Elenor".

Re: Ouya?
Yes you pretty much need to test everything, in particular if the platform uses a different input (mouse -> touch -> controller). The biggest limit of OUYA would be the controller indeed. For plain VNs would be simple, but for RPGs like Loren it would be a LOT of effort to make them usable. So that's why I'm not too enthusiast of it

Re: Ouya?
That makes sense-- although the Ouya controller does have a touchpad, it would be pretty awkward to use it for too many features.

Re: Ouya?
So today I successfully submitted a test app (Heileen 1) to OUYA. It was so simple that was almost ridiculous. I mean it could still be rejected of course, but submitting was really simple compared to the total madness I experienced on iOS. I think I can safely say that none of my games will ever be available on iOS, while for sure I'll try to support OUYA. I still want to wait in any case the official Ren'Py coder libraries, since I want to support his hard work by paying him to use better libraries which should support IAP.
But at least it seems that is really simple
