the Onlyfans story

In case you missed the news quick recap: Onlyfans in theory is a sort of Patreon where people can subscribe to their "idols" and see what they do etc. In practice it was mostly used for porn
And this October they're banning all adult content! It must be a bit of a shock for a lot of people. I remember seeing some tv shows here, in which some girls were earning an insane amount of money, like 20k euros/month, through it (and not even doing anything particularly explicit tbh).

What has to do with me? it shows how when you rely on some 3rd party you can always risk everything a day from another. Which makes me think I made a good move to never move into too much explicit stuff in my games. Here in Europe they'd be rated 14 at best (no penetration etc).

I plan to keep my games always like that: sexy stuff, nudity, but not anything that would be considered 18+, or in any case always have a "clean version" ready :)

It seems kind of strange that these companies shut down a majority of their income. Seems like bad business, but what do I know. Shame, because Onlyfans seemed like one of the few safe spaces, where people mostly create their own content and you didn't have to worry about something unethical going on (abuse, traficking, etc.).

Yes I agree, from business perspective it makes no sense at all. If one wanted to think bad, it could be a move made under pressure of the big names of porn industry since apparently this was a big competitive business and one they couldn't exploit. In a way it's very similar to being indie... content apart

Even Patreon seems heading towards that direction, I know for example that Dharker quit it because they were complaining every 2-3 posts they made. I'll still stay there as long as they let me do the various pin-ups :)

So, I read that they're trying hard to instead make it a site for musicians and the like, and they're worried those users don't want to be affiliated with a site that has porn content.

The stigmata around pornography continues to weird me out, considering the size of that industry.

Ah I wasn't aware of that. I think they might lose money switching from porn to music haha! Anyway, I agree, seems like porn is put on the same level of drugs, criminal activites and so on. Also, there are very different kinds of porn, some are really bad taste but others are form of art (probably more like erotic photography than porn).

It looks like OnlyFans has reversed their decision, so for the moment the current content can stay. However, I know a few people who made accounts elsewhere just in case.

I do know one reason some sites decided to forbid adult content was because many credit card companies and PayPal refused to do business with them. The other reason some did it was they were seeking money from venture capitalists.

Yes indeed it seems that it wasn't their decision, but they were forced by the payment processors. Which is crazy since it's like, duh, porn is the biggest industry on the net haha. You might like it or not, but that's a fact

PayPal has been at that for many years. They're the original credit prudes.

...and then Onlyfans finally realized how much money they would lose, and reversed their decision.

Maybe was just a marketing move? :)
