Most people who complain just don't feel comfortable about sexualized costumes/armor rather than being genuinely concerned about practicality. I bet if the characters wore little armor, but also wore clothing underneath that covers their skin, there will be less people complaining.

It's true that it would reduce some complains, but there are a lot of people out there(me included) that utterly despise the lack of armor on characters, unless they are proper explained. Example:

"This isn't a common robe, this is the finest mithril, light and thin as silk and discreet. No one would even dream I'm actually with my armor in this place!"

Why go through the trouble of acquiring a mithril robe when armor can be worn underneath a regular robe? Metallic materials will also have at bit of luster to them, which would make it far from being discreet. Suits of armor with excessively large pauldrons, ornate designs, random spiky projections, etc. are impractical as well.

Thinking about it better, the "practical" thing in a FANTASY RPG doesn't make much sense indeed. If was an historical RPG, yes sure. Otherwise it's mostly about the design, how cool it looks, etc. So is more about being fanservice or not indeed

Indeed. I was only saying an example, anyway. What I mean to say is to give an excuse for impractical armors. Myrth was a character that didn't bother at all, even in her sexy version, since she stated that didn't believe in clothes and all that, and I do find strange that she is suddenly dressed up in the covered version(but it's a lovely design, regardless). Loren, on the other hand, was a character that I could not even look in the uncovered version for long, she was using an impossible armor, so ridiculous small that made me disdain every commentary she made about going to battle. In the covered version, things got better(but not that much. She still is without a proper armor), and I only turned the suggestive content on the romance scenes.
Now, the design of the armor of Loren in the sequel even in the sexy version was acceptable. Beautiful, and as Jack stated, could be used in a fantasy setting, with all that magic and what not. But still, if the covered version Loren is with more armor, I would be way more satisfied.
I think someone had the idea of letting the player choose whose character to turn the covered version, then players could choose who would be with the sexy outfit and what not. I agree with the idea, since would give more freedom to the player.

Well is a bit of work but is possible to do that. It would be the only RPG with a full option screen dedicated to which character wears which armor! sounds fun!

I'm more interested designs that aesthetically pleasing to me than something utilitarian. To be fair, everyone has a different threshold of tolerance and it's possible to balance/compromise between form and function. I mean, Chris Lightfellow from Suikoden 3 is one of my favorite character designs.

And the portal of the slaver squads leads straight back to the arena?

Hmm ... on second thought ... might make sense: it should be reasonable secure against running away, and immideatly presenting the "catch" provides fun to the spectators. Just hope the slavers DO come back, and with something to present, or the crowd will go angry.
