Might there be a way to maintain the AoE element versatility but have the spells do AoE in ways other than "hit a row"?

Yes but how? the other ready ways are all targets, and the "strikethrough version". I suppose you suggest the chain type, hit first target and then bounce randomly on the opponent. Though it would lose potential because would hit enemies in a random way :)

I like the T, sort of "cone of cold" of AD&D (showing my age here... ahem).
Anyway, will first code the 2nd Act and then see, I think the row attacks will be quite useful in it :)

You could also have spells harm both teams, though of course harming the enemy team more. Like this for example. Volatile Flames: Causes 150% damage to the enemy front row, and 75% to their back row and your front row.

Also I don't believe I saw any "drain" spells in Loren, like: Does X damage to the target and heals the caster for [all/some of] the damage dealt.

Oh and and and. Bramble Coat loses duration every turn the user takes, and every time the user is attacked. Is it possible to have buffs/debuffs that lose duration only when the bearer is attacked and not with turns taken?

(it might be too late to come up with spells for SotW but you bet I will be trying for Loren 2 instead :P)

BTW Cone of Cold is an immortal spell, it exists in WoW for example. Instant cast, conical area (much smaller than in D&D though, you cast it in melee range basically), frost damage, slows targets. Also they named an ice cream item Cone of Cold :P (actually causes problems with macros lol)

There are drain skills in Loren. Not defined as "spell" (but for the engine spell = skill) but there are, like Mesphit's Devour. Rowinda has some nice spells like that

Here are some, I think the 6 most interesting ones from the Warlock class:

of course, all values will probably need to be tweaked, etc :) Madness is my favorite skill ever, also because when Rowinda is casting it starts to laugh like a crazy old woman

Just throwing it out there: If you find yourself finally replacing Invigorating Prayer, I think the hunter could really use a straightforward ability to use from the back row. Barrage requires multiple targets to be useful, Take Aim is an investment, Critical Hit/Double Attack are penalized from the back row, and the abilities that require stagger, well, require stagger. Just something that is stronger than aimed shot will do. I don't think it should interact with Hide in Shadows though because "stronger than aimed shot" and "double damage through HiS" probably means too easy gibbing of a backrow mob.

And yes I like those spells, conceptually at least, maybe not those exact numbers :)

What about Poison Dagger (I think this was the name of goblin scouts skill?) - imho a skill compatible with the backstory of a hunter.
