How do you stop the MOP from taking your money?

It's one of the achievements to not have the master of pits take you money, but really what do I need to do? this guy keeps taking my money no matter what I try to do. Is the secret not to have money? any help would be appreciated 
. I was hoping there would be a trick since I don't particularly like spending all of my gold but an achievement is an achievement.
