Hmm I think so, that part should never change (when says how much food per day Ninim uses).
And yeah trying you should replay good amount of the story, though as you noticed there are only a few required battles, most can be skipped taking alternative routes.
About the burning minigame it's usually easy but since the placement is random, is hard to know if will be hard or not. In Nightmare though a lot of wood pieces are used, so it shouldn't be always easy. I might try to change it so that you can move only once and see how it goes

Regarding Shea's experience, I think the ending battles are possible even without leveling. Of course depends if people playing in Nightmare tells me the final battle with the giant gnoll it's possible or not
