Depending on how often you do the switch it could become annoying or distracting. Like if they switched so your back was to the person talking (so every time the speaker changed) then you could have a dozen flips back and forth through a scene. Which looks a little weird when the background is static.

It might make more sense if used judiciously in certain scenarios. For example, in the original PS, when you walk into the room to talk to Lucille, your back could be to the camera. Or when you're crouched on a hill observing the enemy.

Well if you played Banner Saga that's how I wanted to do it in practice:

(fast forward to the part where they're talking at 11:08
also basically how happens in all movies. So I don't think it can become annoying, otherwise would be annoying even in movies :)

Yeah, that's kind of what I was worried about. They're flipping to show the person on every line of dialogue. It's not too bad on the Youtube video, but the guy is spending around 20 seconds per line of dialogue because he's acting it out. Movie scenes work because they focus on a shot for several seconds.

I personally read pretty quickly. I always have to turn up the text speed to max because I'm usually done with the line (not skimming, actually reading every word) by the time the default text animation is around a fourth of the way through. (According to http://www.readingsoft.com my effective words per minute is 400.) So in my case, playing that game I would just constantly have the sprites flickering back and forth as they change positions every .7 seconds (based on SotW line length). It's not so noticeable with the current art method because the sprites stay in the same spot for multiple lines and only occasionally change facial expressions.

I like the over the shoulder thing in theory but it's very weird that in the picture you posted the character whose face we can see isn't looking towards Diana but us, the player. It's like whats the point of having Diana on the screen then?

I've included over-the-shoulder views in my kinetic novel "Max and Molly". So far none of my readers have complained about it.

And I can think of a few techniques using it, as well as instances where this view would be good :)

Oh, and on another track, the artist is still busy with producing new art. While it will be released in teaser bites, I do think you will like it (especially if you like what he did with the Matrick).

Good eye on the uniform ValHallen. Yes, she is Queen Regina. With the time figured in, she is going to be his grandmother. She is meant to be a little older than the picture suggests (this is a rough sketch after all).
