The real reason behind it, was to not go overboard, to avoid making *every char* bisex/asexual and having 500 romances, and release the game in 2020. See what's happening to Loren 2, delayed year after year (and I don't even know WHEN will be out) because I definitely exaggerated with the romances amount (was my choice of course, but so it will be my choice to limit the games' future romances and not always listen to users on this subject, since they'd want to "romance all sprites!" anyway if I ask them

). I think is better to have less romances but to actually get the games out
In summary I can understand why maybe you'd want to romance Lucius as Alex, as much as I would have liked to romance Charlotte as Alex or Mira as Diana. But sometimes as developer (and player) you need to make compromises
From the story perspective, this:

However, in this case, it was more along the lines of who was more likely to approach the android for a 'romance'.
makes sense - a romance happens when BOTH parts are interested, not just one. So in this case Diana is more likely to form a sort of bond with Lucius. You'll see better when the romance is written but obviously, in this specific case everything is a bit odd/platonic

Now I think about it PS2 has 2 "straight" alien which I think is pretty weird, if you're going to jump the species' barrier to stop at that species' "gender barrier" is kind weird.
You refer to Shiler ? Well, there's more beside that. Also Lakadema is an transgender alien and can be romanced by both. Again the reason is because of budget/releasing the game but also from story perspective, if you can't romance Lisa with Shiler doesn't mean that SHE is not interested in Lisa - simply the story doesn't allow that. Like in real life you don't make love/get in love with all your possible partners, real-life stuff happens, etc. OK I hope managed to explain

but basically what Miakoda said.
