When you set the unique item flag on, they are by definition "Legendary" - I can't change that, would need to hack again the game, changing the code in several points (rewriting the whole randomized vendors thing).
Or I remove the Legendary completely from the game and there are only "fixed items".

Well it can't be left like this. Can't the "real" legendaries have some other flag?
Or what's the unique flag do again? Prevent them from randomly appearing in other shops? It probably wouldn't be a big deal if they did if they're supposed to be available in unlimited supply anyway.

The problem is that even the fixed items needs to have some kind of "marking". You know the letter F=Fine, M=Masterwork, R=Rare etc.
Yes they're available in limited supplies, I put 8 so one for each party member and stop. But what I should put instead ?

In a week I might care about that, right now I'm happy with "anything but legendary"
Maybe we could argue about that sometime... setting the flags individually for each handmade item. They don't need to all have the same. I would want to flag the 1500g necklace as rare but most of the armor probably just fine, maybe masterwork. I think people look for green backgrounds more than letters though... but perhaps that's just me because I've seen so many rares in my casino days I don't get excited by default.

Well this is a problem related to the engine and how the items are generated. I didn't consider this, will take some time to find the best solution (the one that requires less hacks again).
Because for the normal randomly generated items, the "category" was generated too. So I say "generate a Fine long sword" or "generate a Rare ring", etc.
In this case I have no clue what category those items should be. Probably the easiest thing is to add another field to the "dabase", or maybe I can hack it so that in the Unique field you simply put the category.
Still the question is: we want those items to be "lost" between the others? For example in a shop, or inventory, there are 5 other Fine/Rare swords, and just one of them is the fixed item, players would have hard time to figure out why that item is so special to have even a Lore button...

OK I think I found a simple solution, for the other items I was simply searching for a keyword in the text (Fine, Masterwork, Rare) so will do the same for Legendary.
So for the next items, will be enough to add something like: "Fine Bow" at the top.
But of course, there's another problem: the item level. It's another thing generated on the fly, so all the fixed items would have same level

At this point need even more time to find a solution...

the item level is rather important

If the better variants are available from the beginning of Act 2 we break (nah, smash) the balance

Maybe a new field? If zero the item level is generated, if >0 the number is used as item level and all attributes are defined as fixed and tweak() [or how did you call the function?] is not invoked.

I think I fixed, using name parsing. Now the names are like:
Scorpio Blade *6 *Fine
Scorpio Blade *11 *Masterwork
Replica Ember Blade *6 *Fine
Replica Ember Blade *11 *Masterwork
Raiding Axe *6 *Fine
Raiding Axe *11 *Masterwork
Blade No 3 *6 *Fine
Blade No 4 *11 *Masterwork
Training Bow *6 *Fine
Training Bow *11 *Masterwork
Bullslayer *6 *Fine
Bullslayer *11 *Masterwork
Dunespire *6 *Fine
Dunespire *11 *Masterwork
First * is the level, second * is the quality to display in stores.
I'M DONE THIS IS THE LAST HACK I ADD TO THIS GAME EVER - DON'T ASK FOR MORE!!!
BTW I couldn't simply add a field, because even for the quality I was reading from the description, so I had to rewrite the item generation, and release this game next year

Just don't let this steal too much of your time. Was meant to be fun and give some decent shopping options, not cause you grief!

I know, and now have several bugs with the other items, layout, updating from old saves, etc

The fact is that I said yes because thought it could have been a simple addition, but of course, no. Is never simple to change stuff in a complex thing like a RPG. It has to be a pain!

Would it mean less bugs if we just offered one level set of items and let them be tagged legendary?
L could mean an item with Lore, some of them "Legendary" *)
(The legendary items in the game before these additions don't have lore in the description field (Well, apart from Moon Mirror in that file now, lol), so the Lore button wouldn't give much on them now.)
*)Eg out of the earlier weapons Slith is legendary, but it's not particularly awesome, imo. So I don't see these being "L" as much of a problem.
Or you could trash the whole thing for now/forever
jack1974
Aug 22, 2014
No actually the problem I found was because I was using the description for Jewelry/Armor to display the quality in inventory (hack number 30129803)

Now I've changed that to simply display "Lore XXX"
So you have the Band of Bloodspeed that will say "Lore Armor (Chalassa only)" and so on. Lore is fine, is not necessarily Legendary

L could mean an item with Lore, some of them "Legendary" *)
All the other categories denote quality - or potential quality anyway. So it might be weird like that... but perhaps not to a new player.
I just don't want these two items to both be called legendary:
Burning Fist - Mace, Fire
This weapon is believed to have had a hundred owners at the battle for Mount Parak. Each time it struck, it exploded, incinerating everything in a ten foot radius, the wielder included. Its burning bright colors lured the disarmed or greedy into picking it up again, and the story repeated itself. There was ultimately no victor, but Everburn was created. Desperate men and women have since used the weapon in all-or-nothing endeavors, slowly but surely depleting its magic. The merchant insists it's safe to use - the previous owner reportedly only lost a few fingers to the flames.
Made in Chiwan, Whatever, Whatever
This is a plastic sword with a label.

No the L will be displayed only for "real" Legendary item, is only in the inventory for the unique Jewelry/Armors that will display "Lore" instead of the item description. But is just a text.
There's another problem now...but luckily this time simple to solve!

I put max 6 x 6 = 36 slots in vendors because I thought they would be more than enough, but you added 40 armor items. So I think will spread the armors between different vendors, not just Zazir

Okay it seems to work, will do the update later today (fixing some minor layout stuff), probably in 2-3h.
Meanwhile I uploaded the new item.ods file with the changes so you can see how to do it for the next act items:
http://www.macgames.biz/formated_itemlist.ods
in practice as said is enough to add two asterisks for level and quality to display in stores, and done

Hrm. I don't have a working save to check the new store items, but the current legendaries seem weird. Only Krimm's sword has an L over it, not the bracers, and neither of the necklaces (Moon Mirror/Earrings). Also they are level 1. And we definitely need to work on better texts for them, starting with the funny typo in the Moon Mirror description... "Gran" Mogul :D
jack1974

I added the texts to those items myself

I forgot to add the legendary thing on them, but is easy to fix, will do it now. The legendary shouldn't show any level requirement

I like it - and the new Lore button will be hopefully used much more, some "real" texts for the legendary items maybe?
and the prices are off, I looked mostly at armour pieces and it would better to increase the fixed item costs by 20-25%.
