Oh, thank so very much!

So... there's a certain blog post about this today

new main menu :) it's fun because you can change in option what ar you want, and the art style changes instantly when you return to game. I don't know why but it's cool!

Wow. So much better than before. No offense but other artist had serious problems with human anatomy. I still have nightmares about Diana/Galina strip poker faces! I'm sure now it will be great, can't wait to play this new version!

the new camp talk screen with all the manga portraits :)

Personally I think that the main issue with previous artist were facial expressions (super-criticized even in forums) and also the romance CG (in particular certain poses/faces). I still liked that style too (otherwise I wouldn't have done the game!) however I can understand that most people who play my games are used to a manga style.

Some characters like Mizuki, Rigel turned out very good in manga. Personally, I liked more previous version of Galina for example. I think it's normal, artists aren't machines and can't always do everything right (maybe except Loren's artist ).

However I never got so much complaints and most importantly I never had a Steam banner with such a low click-rate than the one of PSCD. Complaints might just be a vocal minority, but click rates don't lie, those are a statistics (I posted the numbers in forums before). It really meant that the game sold much less because people wouldn't even BOTHER to click the banner, put away by the art. That's bad :o

The biggest difference I think is in the romance CG. The manga ones are, really really good. Like, there's no comparison  and I'm not saying this just because there's also the nude version, even the censored/underwear ones are superbly done, not a single anatomy mistake, well colored, etc :)
Muramasa_Junko
So... This means the manga version is going to come out reeeeally soon? x:

Okay, I'll stop lol xD
jack1974
Well there isn't much work to do - however I want to take advantage of the last month before the INSANE ITALIAN SUMMER HEAT strikes (usually July) to work on more complex things like Cursed Lands RPG. During that month I'm barely able to "survive" So I am keeping the PSCD manga release for that month :) Which is not much far away indeed!
OhHaiMe
Are you going to change the name to "Remastered Edition" or something like that? Maybe even release it as a separate game that's free to the original owners? That's what I have seen most games that get a major overhaul like this do. Because most people who where turned away by the art before won't know anything has changed if you don't.
jack1974
I would like to do that (on Steam, here would be too messy). But I'm not sure how that's possible? I mean if I can from my dev panel on Steam automatically unlock the game for all original owners. Need to investigate...
Pace675
I do hope you find a way, with this much work and investment, you deserve any and all monetary gain for this. This is a great thing to do for your customers, and any way to boost sales with the people who found the original art, not to their tastes is a good thing.
jack1974
I know the developer of Defender's Quest, he did something like that last year (or maybe was 2 years ago). I'll ask him :)
Exizel
This is so strange to see them like this, especially because I have played england exchange recently, in general they are better but some are really great now like Alex and Rigel,I can't wait to replay the game.
jack1974
Yeah, as the Patreon people know, she actually did the art of this game BEFORE England Exchange. But I wanted to wait to announce it to make sure I had everything done (art-wise). The CGs were drawn by her but colored by the original colorist in a cell/soft shaded style which merges perfectly with the background. I really think the CGs are awesome (Rigel is one of the best ones ).
DarkWolf
I agree with everyone that characters look way better now, but I would say that the ones that especially look really great now are Diana, Lola, Mizuki and Rigel.
Katicflis
I was always a fan of the original art style. Some of the original characters were better, some of the manga characters are better. I hate that Diana Nelson, a military base commander, looks like a doe-eyed seventeen year old. I kinda do think Garciela, Charlotte, Galina and Mira are downgrades. Brother Nelson and Mizuki are big upgrades(a lot of the guys in general looks way better) and Lola is effing smoking in her manga form.

So, mixed results for me.

Haha, and think that basically 99% of people were telling me about the old art that everyone looked over 50 :o

But of course I know that tastes are tastes, as I said I preferred some characters in old style too (Diana though wasn't one of them). But once you'll see the CGs, there isn't basically a single old CG that is better than the new one (in particular for big anatomy mistakes).
Franka
Ultimately, if it sells more copies, I don't really care all that much. People can get it for the shallow looks, as long as they stay for the excellent gameplay!
jack1974
One of the main reasons I did it was so that (hopefully) more people DISCOVERED it :)

I just posted on twitter 3 images, the stats of 3 games I released last year: C14, Heirs & Graces and PSCD. As you can see PSCD has the worst clickthrough ratio:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DA-kcFJXYAA4ULk.jpg" style="max-width:100%">

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DA-kcFKXcAEO4VO.jpg" style="max-width:100%">

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DA-kcFJXoAAjKUD.jpg" style="max-width:100%">

The important values are Search, Homepage and Weeklong deal. Tag is irrelevant: obviously if someone is searching for "card games" tag, should have a better click through! I want to "catch" people who don't know anything and aren't looking for my games.

For Search, PSCD has 0,6 which is the lowest OF ALL MY GAMES RELEASED ON STEAM!! Not just last year :o So that has to mean something lol

Even Heirs & Graces is better than PSCD. C14 has clearly more clickthrough because of the better (or better targeted, more popular) banner art. Those are 1 year stats, even if H&G was released a few months after both games.

 How can it be worse then Love & Order? I mean like the Love & Order art, but it has that that big fat thumbs down "mostly negative" rating :o
jack1974
People (and devs) overestimate the importance of that rating. Maybe recently has more weight though. Anyway L&O search is 2.32%, tag page 2.77%, etc. So once again well above PSCD. This is of course people who see banner->click on page, not sales. But you see the problem, even one of my worst performing games on Steam (probably the worst of all) has higher banner clickthrough (and as consequence visitors to the page) than PSCD!!!! this says all
