A fun diversive: Summer Session

I’ve recently published a game made in collaboration with Hanako Games, called “Summer Session”. It is quite different from my “usual” games, but I was always open-minded and willing to experiment, so when I found a very good manga artist (Rebecca Gunter) and a great writer (the girl who runs Hanako website), I decided to give it a try. It is of the genre of “dating sim”, a sort of adventure game in which you have to try to date out other girls, everything presented in a fun way.

When I played the first alpha, I was already excited because the game was exactly has I had in mind: a fun, relaxing game, with multiple endings so that you could replay it several times, and a small “simulation” part in it (when you have to decide your weekly schedule).

You can download the game for Mac and Pc (a Linux version is also available and will put online soon) in the adventure games section of my site Tycoon Games. Below a few screenshots of the game itself:

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 bugs

It’s a while I’m not talking about other games, so today took a break from working to write a post about PES 2008. Unfortunately isn’t really a positive post… despite being overall a good soccer game, with the usual realism, it has one BIG problem… no, not the graphics everyone seems to complain about, but the crashing bugs it has!

As of today I started already 3 master league and wasn’t able to finish one season with any of them!!! it’s incredible. All season stops after several matches (seems random, appearing after 9-10 matches, about in the middle of season).

You play a match and after the first half ends, once you click to start the 2nd half the game crashes and quits on the desktop! (I’m playing the Pc version of course).

It’s really incredible that Konami has released such a bugged game. I’ve tried with 2 different pc with all different components (an Intel with ATI card, an AMD Sempron with Nvidia card). On both configurations, same result: that crash after first half.

If I reload the savegame and try again, nothing – the crash remains on that particular match.

Of course, I have the original game – but I’m quite pissed about this and probably next year won’t buy the game, if they keep releasing it without a proper testing…!!! 🙁

EDIT: ok so I found the problem… if you play in another language (at least that was my case, playing in italian language) you won’t be able to play in master league mode! I solved it switching back to english, not a problem for me, but this doesn’t mean that the game was properly tested anyway 🙂

Virtual Villagers, Chapter 2

I think everyone knows about the Virtual Villager success, since is one of the most famous casual games of the whole 2006. Now the guys at LDW released the second chapter, called “The Lost Children”. It was out already for Pc, and now is out even for Mac. I just had time to download it and start playing a bit… quite impressive, I think they’re going to repeat the success of the first episode!

Magic Stones campaign

I have been thinking about a cool addition to implement in my game Magic Stones. A sort of campaign mode, different from the quest. Basically you could select a deck of cards, picking from all the avatars present in the game (not just the 4 elements) and play battles in a map, in the style of Heroes of Might & Magic.

But maybe is better to start a complete new game from scratch. I love the “card” feeling of the game, but I believe that a grid in isometric view would offer even more strategic fun. Someone remembers the game “Age of Wonders” ? that was pretty cool.

Also I definitely want to try to implement internet play on my next rpg/strategy game. I don’t have much free time right now, but I’ve tried to play the latest expansion of Lux, Ancient Empires, and is really cool in multiplayer. Yes, definitely need to add multiplayer mode to my future games!

NWN2 bugs

I’m quite disappointed… I was playing NWN2 (my Christmas gift) and so far, was very pleased with it. Of course I installed the patch 1.04 since the beginning, because it contains many bugfixes.

Then I realized that this game is really “haunted” by bugs 😐 not only minor ones (like quest not completing, and so on) but the worst one is that my game completely freeze!! yes, when I come back to Neverwinter town after solving the Issani quest (and recruiting paladin Donavir, etc) I got another task to go check back the warehouse on north of the town: well, after the first 2-3 rooms, the game completely freeze. Every time. I don’t think is a bug of my system since the rest of the game works, but I don’t really understand why freeze like that.

I don’t even think about starting over, since I played already lot of hours. I’m going to try it on another pc just to be sure that isn’t a system config problem (even if really shouldn’t be…!). A real pity, since apart for this the game rules…!
